Main Ingredients
Grated coconut
Jaggery
Cardamom powder
Poppy seeds
Ghee
Rice flour
Salt
Step 1
Heat a heavy bottom pan and add grated coconut & roast it.

Add jaggery, cardamom & poppy seeds. Cook until they blend together.

Take the pan off the flame and let it cool.
Step 3

Prepare covering:
Add water bring it to a boil. Then add ghee, salt, rice flour & mix it well, turn off the flame. Cover the pot for 3-5 mins.

Remove the mixture to a large bowl & let it cool. You want the mixture to be still warm while you make dough from it. wrap it with a damp cloth

Now make lemon size balls. The size of the balls will depend on the modak mold you have.

Assembling modak:
Apply ghee to the mold. Close the mold, & place the dough ball inside it.

Now start spreading the dough to the sides of the mold. Allow some dough to come out of the mold which will be used to seal.

Scoop in a spoonful of the filling & gently seal the bottom.

Open the mold & remove the modak gently.

Steaming modak:
Add water to the Instant Pot. Place trivet. Let the water boil in saute mode. Place the steamer basket and steam for 10 mins. Naturally, release pressure take out the modak, and let it cool.
