Fig smoothie with dates and almond butter

Sweet & Creamy Fig Smoothie made with fresh figs, dates and almond butter is a healthy and decadent treat to start your morning right!

Fid smoothie with some figs lying beside the glass

I was at Costco couple of weeks back and found a big box of fresh figs. Fresh figs are only available for a very short time when they are in season, so I always grab a box when I see them in a store.

Did you know...in India, smoothies are called milkshakes. So this recipe would be called a fig milkshake or anjeer milkshake in India.

My hubby who does not drink coffee or tea, has a smoothie every morning. So we like to switch it up and try a variety of fruits to make smoothies. And we always add some nuts to make the smoothies healthier. And a banana or date to sweeten the smoothie. As you can guess, we don't add any sugar to the smoothies. You got to have a healthy start to the day!

This Fig Smoothie with Dates and Almond butter is so creamy and delicious, like my Mango Lassi and Fig Banana Smoothie. A healthy way to kickstart the morning, especially after a workout.

Health Benefits of Figs

  • Figs are low in calories and have no fat. One ounce of dried figs have 3 grams of fiber.
  • They are also a good source of calcium and iron.
  • Figs are one of the richest plant sources of a variety of vitamins and minerals.

With all the wonderful health benefits, it is great to add figs to your diet, whether fresh or dried.

Figs have a mild sweet flavor, which some people like as is. However some people prefer more sweeter fruits. For them, figs are great to add to smoothies or jam's which can have other ingredients added.

Ingredients for Fig Smoothie

I used very basic ingredients which you will have in your pantry to make this smoothie - Fresh Figs, Milk, Dates and Almond Butter.

Ingredients to make a smoothie - figs, milk, dates, almond butter

I used fresh figs as they were easily available where I live in California. If fresh are not available, frozen figs will work well in this recipe too.

You can also use dried figs. If they are too hard, soak them in water for some time before blending.

You can even freeze the fresh figs before using, to get a cooler smoothie!

I used whole milk to make this smoothie. To make this fig smoothie vegan, use almond milk.

How to make Fig Smoothie?

Figs, dates, almond butter and milk in a blender to make smoothie

Just add all the ingredients in a blender and blend till they are well combined. I used my Vitamix to blend the smoothie. Oh..and I am loving the smaller jar of the Vitamix to make single serve smoothies or small quantities of dips.

Just five minutes and you have this creamy healthy treat ready to enjoy!

You can switch up this fresh fig smoothie, by adding bananas or strawberries or some greens, or even pumpkin spice as it is almost Fall. Add cocoa powder to the smoothie, if your kids prefer a chocolatey version of fig smoothie!

Thank you for this recipe! I did "church" mine up a bit by using chunky almond butter, added some cinnamon, cardamom, a 1/4 cup of soaked rolled quick oates and about a teaspoon of flax meal to mine. It was SO SO delicious!
