Yogurt dip with carrots and cucumbers

If you are looking for healthier dips or sauces, look no further than yogurt based dips. They are healthier, light and have a slightly tangy taste that gives an extra zing. All you need is a few staple pantry ingredients along with creamy yogurt to make this amazing dip in just 5 minutes.

You can call this yogurt garlic sauce, lemon yogurt sauce or yogurt herb dipping sauce. It brings together all the wonderful flavors in one. Make this with greek yogurt for an even thicker, creamier consistency. It is also an healthier lighter version of a ranch dip, as it is made with yogurt rather than mayonnaise.

It is a great side for french fries, chickpeas squash fritters, and any other fried foods. It is a very subtle and fresh sauce that a beautiful combination of all flavors. As I use fresh yogurt to prepare this dip, it is quite healthy and uses ingredients easily accessible without the need for preservatives.

Ingredients for a basic yogurt dip

The herbs used in this yogurt dip do not require multiple trips to the store. You can make this dip with whatever ingredients you have on hand.

  • Take a cup of cold plain yogurt, I usually use full-fat yogurt as it gives a rich creaminess to the dip.
  • Add garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme to the yogurt.
  • Then add the required amount of salt along with a pinch of pepper.
  • Add olive oil and lime juice. The lime juice will gives the extra tanginess to the yogurt.

This recipe is quite similar to the Greek yogurt dip that uses jalapeños or dill with the bites of garlic and onions. You make this dip before a barbecue or a game night. While you can keep this dip refrigerated for 3-4 days, I would not recommend freezing the sauce, as it is yogurt based.

  1. I absolutely love this dip. Make it for so many different uses: chips, zuchinni pancakes, veggies. Thank you for posting!

  2. This is delicious! I used oregano instead of thyme (didn’t have thyme) and we ate it with chicken fingers. So nice!
