Creamy Indian cold coffee
How to make Cold Coffee1

Learn how to make cafe-style cold coffee by blending instant coffee with cold milk and ice. This delightfully sweet and foamy cold coffee made in a blender is perfect to enjoy on a hot day.

Cold coffee topped with whipped cream

This Creamy Indian cold coffee is undoubtedly the most amazing beverage for summer or any hot day for coffee lovers. That said, I don't mind this delicious cafe style cold coffee any time of the year.

Even though I love my Indian chai, I also enjoy a good cup of coffee anytime. Growing up in Mumbai, during our college times, Cafe Coffee Day was the popular spot to enjoy cold coffee and hang out with friends.

Chocolate syrup, ice cream, and whipped cream are great toppings to make this cold coffee even more indulgent.

Cold Coffee

When we talk about cold coffee on the Indian subcontinent, it means foamy, creamy, milkshake-style cold coffee. To prepare it at home, you'll need basic ingredients like chilled milk, instant coffee powder, sugar, and water.

For a decadent treat, cold coffee is frequently served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. Call it Cold Coffee with Ice-cream or an indulgent Coffee Milkshake.

There are multiple ways to make this cold coffee. You can make it by hand by whisking the coffee powder with water and sugar. Or you can make it in a blender. I am sharing the easy blender method below.

Why you'll love this Cold Coffee

  • Simple, easy, and delicious.
  • Perfectly balanced, cool, and sweet.
  • Ready in 5 minutes.

How to Make Cold Coffee

Ingredients you'll need:

  • Instant coffee - Use your preferred instant coffee brand. Instant coffee comes in finely ground or granulated form. Both of them work. I used Nescafe.
  • Milk - The ideal milk to use is full-fat whole milk. This cold coffee recipe can also be made vegan by using almond or soy milk. Make sure the milk is cold and fresh from the refrigerator.
  • Sugar - I used white sugar to sweeten the cold coffee.
  • Ice cubes
Ingredients you'll need to make coffee

Let's start making Cold Coffee

  • Add the coffee powder, sugar, milk, and ice in a blender and blend until you see a frothy layer. Do not blend for too long or on a very high setting, if you like a foamy coffee.

Pour in glasses and serve. Add toppings of your choice.

Iced coffee

The cold coffee is great without ice-cream or toppings too. I like to keep it light and just enjoy the foamy cold coffee on hot summer afternoons.

Tips to make perfect Cold Coffee

  • Instant Coffee: Use your preferred instant coffee brand such as Nescafe or Bru. Instant coffee comes in finely ground or granulated form. Both of them work.
  • How strong? Add more instant coffee to 1.5 or 2 tablespoons if you prefer a stronger, slightly bitter taste in your cold coffee.
  • Foamy: If you want a foamy coffee, don't blend the coffee for too long.
  • Adjust Sweetness: If you're going to add ice cream, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce, reduce the amount of sugar in the coffee.
  • Cold Coffee with Ice-cream: Make your cold coffee creamier and indulgent with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top or blend it in with the milk.

Common Questions

What type of milk is best for cold coffee?

The ideal milk to use is full-fat whole milk. You can use reduced fat 2% or 1% milk, but that will lose some of the creamy texture. Cold coffee can also be made vegan by using almond or soy milk. Make sure the milk is cold and fresh from the refrigerator.

Is it okay to put ice cubes in my cold coffee?

Yes, ice cubes can be added to the blender with the milk. This will help to make perfect chilled cold coffee.

What's the best way to create a richer cold coffee milkshake?

To create a thicker and creamier milkshake-like cold coffee, add a scoop of ice cream.

How to make cold coffee without blender?

You will need to whip the coffee by hand. In a mug, take instant coffee, sugar along with 1-2 tablespoon of water. Whip for about 3 minutes using your hand until it becomes light brown color and frothy. Then stir in cold milk and enjoy!
