Make this amazing Indian style Avocado Chutney Sandwich and satisfy those morning hunger pangs in a healthy way. You will love the taste of fresh mint cilantro chutney, and the creamy smooth avocado slices in every single bite!

Sandwich with avocado, chutney and cream cheese being picked to be eaten

When I am making breakfast, my first love is eggs..period! However this vegetarian avocado chutney sandwich gives the egg breakfast a very very tough competition.

When there are ripe avocados in the fruit basket, I love to make this fusion avocado toast sandwich. This is my favorite Indian Avocado Recipe!

If you ask an Indian about a dip or spread they like, green cilantro chutney definitely tops the list. You can slather it on bread or dip your fav appetizer in it (think samosa...mmm).

This chutney is a perfect complement to the creamy avocados, to give a little bit of spice to the sandwich. If you like spicy food, don't hesitate to make your chutney with some extra green chili peppers!

That said, you can also use pesto or Trader Joe's zhoug sauce in place of this chutney.

    Why Avocados?

Avocado is a creamy, rich, and earthy fruit and is a superfood that boasts of more than 20 nutrients. Did you know it is called as "Makhan Fal" which means "Butter Fruit" in India for its buttery texture?

Avocados are loaded with good monosaturated oil that helps in lubricating your joints and lower blood pressure. Other than these they come with a list of benefits like

    • It is loaded with many kinds of vitamins like Vitamin K, Vitamin B5, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E
    • Avocados contain more potassium than a banana
    • They are filled with fiber that can reduce your blood pressure spikes and keep your intestines healthy.
    • Avocados can aid in weight loss and can help in lowering your cholesterol and triglycerides level.

All in all, it is wonderful superfood, that you want to include in your diet!

    How to make?

Making an avocado cream cheese chutney sandwich requires a few simple ingredients commonly found in your pantry like -

    • Brown or White Bread Slices - I prefer Dave's whole wheat bread as they are a healthier option and also contain whole grains and seeds.
    • Cream Cheese - you can use goat cheese or even skip it completely to make this sandwich vegan!
    • Green Mint Cilantro Chutney - This is a staple chutney used in Indian chats, and here is our favorite recipe for it. You can substitute store-bought pesto or make homemade pesto to vary the taste of this sandwich. We also love Zhoug Sauce from Trader Joes. It works great if you want a quick replacement for this chutney.
    • Seasonings - You can use basic salt and pepper, or Chaat Masala for a tangy flavor. We also love to add Trader Joe's chili lime seasoning in this sandwich!
Two spices of bread with cream cheese and green chutney

I have sliced the avocados for making this sandwich but can mash them as well to make a guacamole sandwich.

So, let's start making this simple Avocado Chutney Sandwich:

    • Start by spreading the cream cheese evenly all over the bread slices.
    • Then spread the green chutney as a second layer over the cheese.
    • Cut the avocados into half, make cuts with a knife and scoop out the avocado with a spon. Then place the slices over the chutney directly.
    • Add the seasonings of salt, black pepper or your favorite Chaat Masala!

    • Cover the slice of bread with another slice that is also coated with the cream cheese and chutney.
    • Repeat the same process to make more sandwiches.
    • These avocado chutney sandwiches taste best when you have them immediately

    • Spinach

You can also make guacamole and add these chopped veggies to make this delightful avocado veggie sandwich!

    Grilled Avocado Sandwich

If you like grilled sandwiches, then pop these sandwiches onto the skillet. Butter them on both sides to get that distinct crunch and keep turning them till they become brown. In case, you have a standalone grill, then it is even better.

You can also add cheese slices to make it like an avocado chutney grilled cheese sandwich. Sounds mouthwatering just when saying it!!!!!!!

Thanks for the recommendations for Zhoug sauce and chili lime seasoning! Our favorite evening snack is now an open sandwich / toast - bread with melted cheese, some zhoug sauce, chili lime seasoning and sliced avocados. Yum!
