Avocado Cucumber Tomato Salad is a refreshing and flavorful dish. This is the tastiest summer salad, which can be put together in less than 10 minutes. It is loaded with avocado, cucumber, tomato, red onions, cilantro, and tossed in a light lime dressing with Indian chaat masala, for a tangy, delicious salad!
This salad is gluten-free, vegan and can be made oil free by skipping the olive oil.
The creamy avocados perfectly balance out the acidity of the tomatoes, and the cucumber adds a burst of crunch and freshness. A real crowd-pleaser!
This Indian-style Avocado Cucumber salad uses Chaat Masala, similar to this Indian Onion Salad. Chaat Masala is a special spice blend made from dried mango powder, pomegranate seeds, cumin, black salt etc.
It is a key element in Pakistani and Indian street food like chana chaat, fruit chaat, papdi chaat, and, well, anything else with the word ‘chaat’ or any other street foods.

Ingredients and Substitutions
Avocado: It adds fibre and healthy fats to the salad, making it more filling and satisfying. Its creamy texture contrasts nicely with the crispness of the cucumber and red onions.
Cucumber: I prefer Persian cucumber because it contains a low water content and don’t require peeling. Cucumbers are keto-friendly, hydrating and are high in antioxidants. You can use english cucumbers as well.
Cherry Tomatoes: These are a good choice because they are virtually always sweet and hold their shape in the salad. Tomatoes are an excellent source of Vitamin C. You can use any tomatoes if you don’t have cheery tomatoes.
Red Onion: Because red onions are slightly sweeter and less pungent than yellow onions, they are ideal for this salad.
Chaat Masala: This adds the zingy, tangy flavor and slight spice to your salad. Buy it at the Indian grocery store or on Amazon.
Lime Juice: Simple lime dressing complements the salad’s flavors and freshness.
Olive Oil: You can use avocado oil/ grape oil. Oil is optional and your salad can be oil free as well.
Seasoning: salt and black pepper are the only two seasonings besides Chaat Masala, you require for this salad.
Cilantro: If you’re not a fan of cilantro, then substitute it with parsley or basil. But cilantro is the herb of choice for this Indian style avocado salad.
How To Make This Salad
You’ll enjoy this quick, easy and nutritious salad with simple ingredients that is ready in 10 minutes!
- Chop the cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red onion and avocado. Place in a large salad bowl and toss together. You want to cut the vegetables so that they are all roughly the same size.
- Add the chaat masala, lime juice, olive oil, salt and black pepper. Then add the chopped cilantro leaves.
Toss the salad well. And you’re ready to go!
How to Serve?
This is great as a side dish for dinner or serve it for main course for lunch. It basically goes well with everything!
It will also pair well as a side for Tandoori Chicken wings or Chicken Tikka Kebab.
You can also use it to make healthy veggie wraps or serve it with your burgers!
Variations
Add Greens and other veggies: Adding green leafy veggies and fresh herbs will improve the nutritive quotient of the salad. Arugula, kale, spinach, lettuce – anything can be used. Use red bell pepper, and corn if you like. The possibilities are endless!
Add Feta or Mozzarella Cheese: Add some feta cheese, goat cheese or fresh mozzarella to enhance the creaminess and flavor of the salad
Add Balsamic Vinegar: Add vinegar instead of lime juice for your dressing. Feel free to use Balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, white wine vinegar etc. for that kick!
Common Questions
You can chop cucumber, cherry tomato and red onion, cover it and refrigerate it. Toss the avocado with the dressing just before serving. The salad will keep in the fridge for a day after being tossed together, but it’s best served fresh.
Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a day in an airtight container. Just remember that if your avocado becomes brown, it’s just oxidation from air exposure, but it’s still perfectly safe to consume despite its color!

Delicious recipe with a nice blend of textures and flavors, worthy of 5 stars. We tripled it for 6 people eating and it was wiped out. Some suggestions: For the 6 people to serve cafeteria style, it felt a *bit* small quantity-wise. People serving this to guests this might wish to err on making too much. Also, I personally found the flavoring a *bit* subtle, although the lime we bought might not have been the strongest. I’d err on doubling the dressing and the applying to taste.
Hi Liari – So glad you enjoyed the salad. Thanks for sharing the suggestion!
I’ll definitely try this minus the red onion as raw onion disagrees with me! Any alternatives that you can think of, or should I just leave it out?
Hi Jane – You could try adding some red or yellow bell peppers for the crunch or just leave out the red onions.
I’m eager to taste chaat masala — the ingredients sound delicious, and it’s now in my Amazon cart. Aside from that, I could devour this salad all by myself (which I am)! I’d like to add feta, but I wonder if it would somehow affect the flavor profile of the chaat.
Uh-oh — the chaat masala won’t be delivered until June. Until then, I’ll use za’atar instead.
Hi Hollis – Glad that you are so excited to try the salad. I think this salad will be great with feta too.
